There are words ending with '-알못[-almot]', such as '요알못[yo-almot], 축알못[Chukalmot]'. In this case, '-알못[-almot]' is not an expression officially registered in the Korean dictionary, but it is an abbreviation of '알지 못하는 사람(people who do not know much about something)', and a lot of young people already use it. It is used after various fields. It means a person who does not have much knowledge in any field.
Examples of words with '-almot'
- Yo-almot(요알못) : cooking(요리) + people who don't know much about(알못)
- Sul-almot(술알못) : alcohol(술) + people who don't know much about(알못)
- Ya-almot(야알못) : baseball(야구) + people who don't know much about(알못)
- Chuk-almot(축알못) : soccer(축구) + people who don't know much about(알못)
- Hel-almot(헬알못) : working out(헬스) + people who don't know much about(알못)
- Gol-almot(골알못) : golf(골프) + people who don't know much about(알못)
- Deung-almot(등알못) : mountaineering(등산) + people who don't know much about(알못)
- Ju-almot(주알못) : stocks(주식) + people who don't know much about(알못)
- Bu-almot(부알못) : real estate(부동산) + people who don't know much about(알못)
- Hip-almot(힙알못) : hip-hop(힙합) + people who don't know much about(알못)
- Pae-almot(패알못) : fashion(패션) + people who don't know much about(알못)
- Young-almot(영알못) : english(영어) + people who don't know much about(알못)
There are actually an infinite number of words that can be added before '-알못[-almot]', but the most used expressions seem to be the same as above. The opposite expression is '-잘알[-jalal]'. '-잘알[-jalal]' will be dealt with in another post. 🙂
